Studiously salacious denizens on display….

Ffolkes,
Well, THAT’s annoying….. I got up at five AM to start a Pearl, had completed a four paragraph intro section, and started a pretty good first old school Pearl, when I had to stop and go with my landlord, to move my bed from the old place to the new…… For the first time, ever, this program, called Essential PIM, where I do the original composition for each and every Pearl, failed to save what I had written when I closed it to go do the bed. What a pain…. about 3-400 words gone, poof! Ah well, just Murphy having a high time in the morning, I guess….

The major portion of the move is now done; one more good truckload will complete the emptying of the old. Then I get to start the lovely job of swabbing out two years of built up bachelor dirt in the corners of the old house, a task that may take weeks by itself, given the two hour limit I have to any sustained hard work (i.e., sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, etc…..). But, my bed is now set up at the new house, so that is a major plus in life; I hate sleeping on floors anymore; this old bod can’t handle it for long.

I guess what I’m saying is YAY!

It’s virtually done, and I can soon get back to my relatively stable routine, and hopefully not have to do this again for several years. So, that’s the end of that story, and we can get on with the task at hand….. creating a new Pearl…. I’m still a bit pressed for time, and it’s almost now past noon, so I’m going old school for one, and a nice poem for the second. We’ll see what the last section brings; I never know what will come out when I go random…..Shall we Pearl?…..

Here is the old school pearl, on one of my usual targets subjects, religion. To my mind, it’s pretty clear where it is going, and wastes no time getting there. But, just to be sure, the last one fairly well seals the deal…. enjoy!

“As soon as you are willing to discard observational data because it conflicts with religion, you are giving up any hope of ever really understanding the universe.   As soon as you pick religion as the touchstone of reality, then we have to start discussing how one can demonstrate the correctness of one religion over another when different *religions* disagree.” —   Wilson Heydt (whheydt@PacBell.COM)

“The answer is simple: kill the heretics.   History shows us that this is the actual solution that competing religions apply — trial by combat or trial by ordeal.  God is the final arbiter.  What a sad waste of human potential it has proven to be.” — Paul Hager (hagerp@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu)

Disproving evolution does not prove creation. — Smart Bee

“But a short time elapsed after the death of the great reformer of the Jewish religion, before his principles were departed from by those who professed to be his special servants, and perverted into an engine for enslaving mankind, and aggrandizing t heir oppressors in Church and State.” — Thomas Jefferson, [letter?] To S. Kercheval, 1810

“Ninety-nine percent of the people in the world are fools and the rest of us are in great danger of contagion.” — Thornton Wilder

Education and religion are two things not regulated by supply and demand. The less of either people have, the less they want. — Charlotte Observer, 1897

Apostrophe To Man

(On reflecting that the world is ready to go to war again)

Detestable race, continue to expunge yourself, die out.
Breed faster, crowd, encroach, sing hymns, build bombing airplanes;
Make speeches, unveil statues, issue bonds, parade;
Convert again into explosives the bewildered ammonia
and the distracted cellulose;
Convert again into putrescent matter drawing flies
The hopeful bodies of the young; exhort,
Pray, pull long faces, be earnest,
be all but overcome, be photographed;
Confer, perfect your formulae, commercialize
Bacteria harmful to human tissue,
Put death on the market;
Breed, crowd, encroach,
expand, expunge yourself, die out,
Homo called sapiens.

Edna St. Vincent Millay

Pretty heavy, eh? I love it when people don’t pull their punches….. Abondanza!….

I knew I’d figure it out….. below you will see a picture. Your task is to write a caption for the picture. It should be fairly easy, the picture speaks volumes…. Put any captions you think of in the comments section, and I’ll publish the best ones in a day or two, depending on how much of a response this gets…. If it should bomb, I’ll write one myself (I’ve thought of at least a dozen….) and publish that, along with a scathing expose of WP laziness…. just kidding….  (The picture was found on Facebook with no attribution….)    Have fun!

Okay, I’ve done it…. put together another Pearl in the midst of moving. Not too shabby, I’d say, considering I didn’t expect to be able to do any for a few days….. This is proof positive just how much WordPress means to me; the sense of community that is present here inspires me daily, and that’s a good thing…. Y’all take care out there, and May the Metaphorse be with you…..

  1. Good to hear it, Ned; sleeping is always more comfortable on a bed, I’ve found.
    So many thoughts re the gorgeous cat and bird pic…!
    “So what if they say we’re a strange couple! Just ’cause we like different food doesn’t mean we can’t eat from the same table….”
    Have a good one, Ned… xoxoxo

    • Thanks, Carolyn…. I’m collecting the captions, and will publish the winners in a day or two… And the bed is HEAVENLY!…. Take care, and Blessed Be…. 🙂

    • Thanks, Willow…. I”m taking all the captions down, and will publish in a couple of days, when I get a couple more….. The new place is settling in slowly, or rather, I’m settling slowly…. all will be well…. 🙂

      • again I wish you well and hope you settle in quickly and seamlessly. I may submit another caption that was only a quick knee jerk reaction something better may occur to me later! 😉

  2. I love that photo, although the kitty doesn’t look altogether happy…actually looks a bit annoyed, so my caption from the kitty’s point of view would be, “Ned’s friend, Murphy, has struck again…in the form of a feathered companion.” 🙂

    • “cat, are you sure were going about this the right way?I distinctly remember the saying being ‘as the crow flies., not ‘as the cat,walks’.!

      Note to gigoid from odysseus :if you do print this feel free to fix grammar, punctuation, and spelling. We are blaming most of the issues on Odie,mamas cellphone, and,not on Odies written English Thank you.

      • Odie & Odiemama…. Thanks! I’ll take care of the punctuation; you can blame it on the phone, and I’ll even repeat your assertion in agreement…. 🙂 Take care, you two, & Blessed Be….

    • Carol…. Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it…. I’m saving all the captions, and will publish in a day or two, when I have enough to warrant it…. Take care, & Blessed Be, milady…. 🙂
