Come Tuesday, it’s all new soup….

Ffolkes,

I believe that it is better to tell the truth than a lie.

I believe it is better to be free than to be a slave.

And I believe it is better to know than to be ignorant.

Light reflecting the duality of Reality

Good morrow…. maybe. Only time will tell, I suppose. Time is again a factor, so, with no further attempts at feeble wit, we shall begin today’s version of the morning follies….

Shall we Pearl?

“The wise learn many things from their foes.” — Aristophanes (c. 450-385 B.C.) — The Birds (414 B.C.), line 375

When this group made the comment about the Shrub, at the concert in Europe, I knew I’d like them; their fantastic music doesn’t hurt, either…. Enjoy, ffolkes….

We the People...

I’m late enough to cheat…. Don’t forget, I AM an American!…. In government, it’s what we do…. What this means for today’s post, as you might have guessed, is an old-school pearl, with parameters set to indict our Beloved Ruling Class yet again…. It ain’t art, but, it’s Ibsen…. Wait! Scratch that… Reverse it…. But, then…..

Oh, never mind…..

“A society of sheep must in time beget a government of wolves.” — Bertrand de Jouvenel

“In the one hand he is carrying a stone, while he shows the bread in the other.” — Plautus — Aulularia, Act ii, Sc. 2, 18, (195.)

“Only poor men get hanged.” — G. K. Chesterton, ILN, 7/17/09

“When men get in the habit of helping themselves to the property of others, they cannot easily be cured of it.” — The New York Times, in a 1909 editorial opposing the very first income tax

“I felt like I was in charge.” — Vice President Dan Quayle, — after working the Panama Canal’s locks

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty–power is ever stealing from the many to the few.” — Wendell Phillips

“The mystery of government is not how Washington works but how to make it stop.” — P. J. O’Rourke, Parliament of Whores

Stray Cats

The veils that billow and fold
between dreams and reality
may sometimes part,
showing the visions of one to the other,
blending, bleeding as one,
only to bring us up short,
closely jammed against immovable fate.

Still, we keep our watch,
seeking to find the vision
that brings with it the mark of reality’s regard,
a humble mind, and a compassionate heart.

Events of broad impact draw us away again,
distracting with shiny glitter and tinny music,
leaving our feelings raw and bruised,
the victim of universal disregard.

Now, in the twilight of years, the music is fading,
and the glitter has all gone….
yet the memory of visions remains sharp and clear,
melancholy reminders of reality’s promises,
unkept…..

Our final pearl of the day is a standard pearl, set with our most common parameters, to wit: comments on Life at Large…. The conclusion is, naturally, left as an exercise for the Gentle Reader….

“Be not ashamed of thy virtues; honor’s a good brooch to wear in a man’s hat at all times.” — Ben Johnson

“Not by years but by disposition is wisdom acquired.” — Plautus — Trinummus, Act ii, Sc. 2, 88, (367.)

“His own character is the arbiter of every one’s fortune.” — Publius Syrus — Maxim 283

“Do not look for all the answers at once. A path is formed by placing stones one in front of the other.” — The Giant from Twin Peaks

“Cultivate only the habits that you are willing should master you.” — Elbert Hubbard

“The power to stand alone is worth acquiring at the expense of much sorrowful solitude.” — George Bernard Shaw

“The fastest draw is when the sword never leaves the scabbard. The strongest way to block is never to provoke a blow. And the cleanest cut is the one withheld.” — “Kensho”, by Dennis Schmidt

“On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.” — Things We Can Learn From Dogs

He who knows man is clever;

He who knows himself is enlightened.

He who conquers men has force;

He who conquers himself is truly strong.

I’d say this one could be called an unconscious pearl…. I swear, I was NOT conscious for much of the time spent creating it. I can’t have been, for I don’t remember anything but the Dixie Chicks (seeing a group of beautiful women so early tends to fog the male brain….)…. Ah well, by all available evidence, it’s done, and that’s all we care about, right? Right…. See y’all tomorrow, ffolkes, if the force field holds….

Y’all take care out there,
and May the Metaphorse be with you;
Blessed Be, dearest Carole, Mark,Theresa, & Richy
and everyone else, too…

When I works, I works hard.
When I sits, I sits loose.
When I thinks, I falls asleep.

Which is Why….

Sometimes I sits and thinks,
   and sometimes,
I just sits.
