Dreaming of dragons on the wing….

Ffolkes,

But he that is without fear is king of all the world.”

Neighborhood scoundrel at play….

Hajime…. Yesterday, this sleepy little seaside town saw 103º F, which lasted through the night; it was still 85º at 10:00 pm. It’s 0630 now, & already pushing 80º, with a high predicted to reach 105º. But, climate change is just a myth, so, nothing to see here, move along. To watch people try to deal with such temps would be amusing, if it weren’t so pathetic, and, for many of society’s less capable or challenged individuals, dangerous to their health & well-being. Like Bert Russell once noted, sometimes one must be moved to a bottomless well of pity for the suffering of mankind…. I would share his sentiment, if it were not so clearly their own damn fault most of the time.

But, it’s too damn hot, and early, to rant; moreover, I really don’t want to do so very much, not any more. What’s the point, when virtually nobody listens, or makes any attempt to change their lives, or the way they approach it, which is, almost always, the root cause of all their suffering? Oh, well, I suppose some folks enjoy drama in their lives, though I can’t claim to understand why. I guess, when one suffers from a sense of helplessness and confusion, drama seems like a way to feel something other than dread and despair. SIGH…. Silly humans….

Rather than continue in such a fruitless vein, let’s do something else. Since I have most of this done, I suggest we move on down the page, listen to a bit of music, enjoy today’s poem choice, & some fine, if relatively obscure pearls of virtual wisdom, strung together on a common thread, together becoming greater than the sum of parts. Plus, if nothing else, it will serve to distract me from the ridiculous heat we’re experiencing around here, long enough to run a cool bath…. See y’all down the line….

Shall we Pearl?….

a pessimist is correct oftener than an optimist,
but an optimist has more fun
— and neither can stop the march of events.”

Today’s poem is for those living in the greater Pacific Northwest, who, with me, are suffering the heat; it’s a winter poem, & may provide a bit of cooling distraction, if only for the time it takes to read and consider…. Enjoy!….

A Seasonal Approach

Absolute stillness grips a frozen field,
anticipating dawn with such patient yield
morning burgeoning in dark winter’s hold
brings promise of tales yet to be told.

Lengthening days of pale sun unto night
slowly tell of time’s subversive flight
bringing such original songs of natural fire
with melodies complex in casual attire.

The months are certain they will always win
it is just the way it has always been.
None may argue, nor yet slow life down
Nor dim the eternal beauty of nature’s gown.

Winter evolves from fall into spring,
sending flocks and hearts ever awing.
Summer follows suit, t’other way ’round
Spring into fall, often without a sound.

Life is meant to be lived, beginning to end
choices abound, and change can be a friend.
Yielding with grace to reality’s compelling ploy
fills our plain existence with clean, honest joy.

  1. I have yet to understand how climate change ever became a debatable topic in places like America.

In Jamaica, we’ve always accepted it as fact. I’ve never heard anyone either publicly or privately claim it’s not true, back home.

    • People who ‘believe’ what they’re told, or taught, won’t look at new information, especially if it is something for which they would have to take personal responsibility. Sadly, that describes the majority of humans in this broken world…. I checked out your site, & applaud your approach to living…. If you spend any more time with me here, you’ll come to find that is also my approach, to be as fully human as I can be….

Welcome to Exploring Consensual Reality…. Intelligent comments are more than welcome; they’re a big part of why I do this….

      • Hmm…is that to say climate change isn’t taught in schools in America? It was taught to me from as early as 1st grade, if memory serves, which was around 1996.

And thank you. I do my best to be the change I want to see, and to live an authentic life.

        • I would imagine there is at least some discussion of the concepts/subject in the schools of the US, though, most likely, not in 1st grade. I spoke in a larger sense, of how the majority of public at large is, truthfully, ignorant of the urgency of these changes. This is a result of the overall lack of logic, or even the most basic reasoning skills, prevalent among much of the world. (an assertion for which the reasoning can be provided, at the risk of a long involved rant/discussion; trust me, it’s true…) The subject is avoided, because it is hard, and unpleasant to consider. Unfortunately, in my time, I have witnessed the steady worsening of the situation, as there are now more than seven BILLION people on Earth, and at least five billion of them are incapable of understanding, or facing the difficult issues involved.

That being said, what you tell me, and your obvious ability to do so at your tender age, gives me hope there may still be enough people to turn the tide against the inertia of a society gone insane.

Your last line, especially encourages me, but, I’ll tell you, frankly, as a human who understands change begins with the individual, you are unusually gifted with a connection to natural law, and life, uncommon in today’s world…

Thanks for commenting, & I hope to exchange more in the future….

          • That is so strange to me! Even in 4th grade, we had to do a project on climate change. It was never taught to us as a theory. It was taught as an observable fact.

Ironically, we were also taught that first world countries were mostly to blame (a sentiment that continued even into college environmental science classes in 2012), and since America was our closest first world nation, you know who we blamed for the ozone layer’s depletion on our side of the planet.

But we were never taught the Americans continued as they did out of lack of belief. We were taught that it was complacency, simply not caring enough to make a change. I didn’t know it was debatable here until 2016. I was flabbergasted…

And thank you. I’ve been told I’m a bit of an old soul when it comes to my philosophies and beliefs of life. I just want to go to sleep with a clear conscious every night and wake up with no qualms about the woman in the mirror. I think if we all took that tiny goal a little more seriously, it would make a big change.

Thanks again, and do drop by anytime! I look forward to more chats with you! 😊
