Day the next 013

The cusp of the day….

Hajime…. When I arose this morning, this portion of my computer was blank, with only the basic formatting structure in place. I thought, given my lack of energy in the past few days, I would have to re-blog an older Pearl, simply because there wasn’t time for me to even fake it. However, Murphy stepped in, to remind me today is the day we set the clocks back an hour, which meant I had an extra hour to work on this. So be it…..

I still haven’t much energy, so you’ll have to put up with whatever happens; much of it will be old material. I’ve put in some lively music, to keep us all awake; beyond that, the following will be random as random can be. Go figure, eh? Moreover, I’m maintaining the ruthlessness we’ve been employing of late, to get this done while I still have the means to do so. I’m hoping to be back to relative normality soon, but, hey, what’s normal? In the meantime, we’ll get on with today’s mess, while we can do so with some dignity. Oh, really? Well, never mind. We’ll just go on, anyway….

Shall we Pearl?….

“Whatever your advice, make it brief.”

Increments

Meaning fades to distant reality
while gazing at such triviality.
An insane world, where utter finality
is reward for disability.

Metaphorically, as a matter of course.

Moment to moment, passion blooms,
swells, and fades, swept by new brooms.
Bitter dreams catch fire in empty rooms,
waiting for broken time, which never resumes.

Superficially, with great force.

Dire wolves stand snarling at the door
called to existence from a distant moor;
discordant strains sound a mad, sad roar,
a dirge for those who went before.

Morbidly, without vital recourse.

Honest effort fades from human ken
until entropy finds home in every when.
Illusory fear inundates imagination, then
buries hope, in its own ashes, hidden.

Cruelly, absolutely no remorse.

Silence falls until it shatters the night.
The universe has refused the fight.
Illusion is now reality, such a fey sight.
Who has courage to live in the light?

Really? It could be worse.

Smart Bee is being stuffy this morning, refusing to issue even the least ironic pearl for me to use. Since I’m already deep into scavenging mode for material, here’s a short discussion to take the place of today’s old-school pearl. I could use another old-school version, but, what the heck? I’m going for it, anyway…. I hope you enjoy this little foray into not much….

From 2/9/2013:

“Been there. Done that. Reincarnated.” — Smart Bee

Reincarnation is a fascinating concept, especially given its controversial nature as being in opposition to what is believed by many of the world’s most influential religious systems. Some do, and some don’t believe in it, and I have yet to determine, through either research or luck, just why some do an some don’t…. I mean, I know why, in the sense that it doesn’t fit in with the dogma of those religions that subscribe to an afterlife consisting of harps and clouds, while it does match those that have a clearly different view of what happens after death. No, I mean I don’t understand why….. oh. Wait….

You know, I just realized, as I wrote that last line there, that this is a complete waste of energy and time, and further, is in direct violation of one of my own personal rules of life, and avoiding hassles in same…. That rule says, “Asking why is a waste of time, especially as regards human behavior…. so don’t bother.” It’s an old lesson, and one that I should have realized I was close to breaking before I did, as I’ve had a lot of experience with it in my time. Hell, I’ve had enough time that almost everything is something I’ve had experience with; maybe I can use that as an excuse for missing this time, yes? Well, okay…. Still, I can claim a lot on my mind, and nobody can tell me different, so there….

Any who, getting into the “why” of how folks choose their beliefs about a subject as speculative and controversial as reincarnation is bound to be a subject that would entail a great deal of delving into human behaviors that would only serve to frustrate me no end. If there is any area of existence that people are more foolish, or deliberately ignorant about, than such a subject as the afterlife, well, I don’t know what it is. Add to that the very dominant tendency on the part of most people to choose one religious dogma over another based on how much it makes them think (seeking the lesser of two evils, in their minds….), and you get subject matter that can only lead one to drink, to try to get the bitterness and shame out of one’s head….

Me? Hell, I have no idea what will happen when this life ends, not in any specific sense…. I believe that my consciousness, as a form of energy, will not be destroyed, and that part of the universe that manifests as the essence of Ned will merely change form…. to what form I couldn’t say. I can say that, though I am in no particular hurry to find out, it sounds like a great adventure, and I’m looking forward to knowing the answers to all the great questions that we humans ask ourselves during our stint on Earth, in the form we currently inhabit, even if those answers aren’t anything like any of the speculative concepts I’ve heard of or seen, or though of myself…. As Bob Heinlein said, “…. Soon enough, you will know, so why fret about it?”

“He who awaits much can expect little.” — Gabriel Garcia Marquez

********************************

Well, it’s done. I guess the best that can be said for it is, it’s not a re-blog. Entirely, anyway. As with everything else in reality, it is what it is. To encourage common sense, which is sorely needed in today’s world, let’s let it lie, and just get on with the day, eh? I think that’s a swell idea, and I’m driving, so…. See y’all tomorrow, ffolkes. I may even have something rational to share, but, don’t get your hopes up…..

Hajime…. I don’t have much today. In fact, I’ve got so little, calling it zero would be dignifying it. It’s so little, it makes zero look like infinity. But, wait, there’s more!

No, there really isn’t. The physical issue related yesterday is such that it leaves me with no energy for anything beyond the minimum activities of daily living. To keep this from turning into a complaint session rather than an intro, we’re going to assume our ruthless mask, to ensure we get this done. It’s going to require some rather extensive ruthlessness, too, so, we’d best get started on that. We will begin, by beginning, now….

Seeing is Conducive to Belief

Folly sits so comfortably upon my fevered brow
one would easily believe that I would know how
to look at Life with a jaded, weary eye
seeing enough, and more, to know Why.

Such seems the case, as I will it to be,
an open book of a face, it looks so like me;
what’s known to be so, needs no close attention
familiar sights require no minding, nor mention.

The eye is drawn at once to the stark and new,
and sent back to sleep by successful review.
Once we find evidence we feel we understand,
curiosity languishes, dismissed at command.

Ancient sages knew the insidious value of illusion,
preachers and pundits know the power of confusion.
Each pair of eyes contains its own point of reference,
each mind sets its own standards of preference.

Seeing is believing, for those who live in thrall,
accepting what is perceived is all they ever recall.
Unknown to them, reality follows another set of rules,
Deeper, more dangerous, and no place for fools.

Brick at its best….

Hajime…. First, I must apologize to those blogs I follow, where I’ve been mostly absent for a day or two. Yesterday, an old physical demon paid a visit, which has extended into today. I’m doing the right thing to move it along, but, it’s an insidious thing, embedding itself with cold claws that grip, and takes some time to convince to leave. The upshot was, I missed commenting on ANY blogs I’d planned to visit, for which I offer my regrets. I’ll see what happens, but, it could take a day or two to get normal. Let’s hope for efficient methodology results, eh?

All that said, obscurely as possible, to preclude relating details which might just flip switches, I’m going to go directly on, to keep from becoming overly sentimental, or even maudlin. Had enough of that over the birthday celebration, so, I’m cutting down on such indulgences. However I seem to cut it, nothing seems to feel comfortable, so, what the hell, I’m gonna go post this, and be done for today. I may, or may not, be here tomorrow…. I guess that’s another one time will have to tell. It always does.

Meantime, I’m out of ideas for any extensions here, so, I figure we’ll just go do what there is to do, and be off into the day…. On days like today, that looks like this….

Shall we Pearl?….

Fatal Supplication

But what becomes of our deepest dangerous dreams?
Does fantasy rescue any part of life’s imperiled favor?
Reality becomes but silvery pairs of mismatched teams,
Dining with affable elegance, such diffident waste to savor.

Who decides what sorrows to carry bravely to term?
Will fragrant moments of sanity make hasty manifestation?
Only Time’s patient mutability sends messages so firm,
Yet salient impersonal vexation lends credence to ripe imagination.

Can folly bring out sadness and rampant visions of beauty?
What kindness can be found in distant open relations?
With countless faces the dead disturb with dire impunity,
From separate caches of wisdom come simple stylish privations.

Shall shallow emotion serve to provide such explanations?
When does avaricious intensity assume primary focus?
Plain answers slide softly through with multiple mitigations,
While conceptually indignant concepts engage a fatally personal locus.

Casual Symmetry….

Hajime….

At the eastern horizon, a pale sun rose, casting pallid light over the rocky landscape. As the sky lightened, vivid shadows leapt into evidence, casting their darkness away from the rising sun, to stain the white, white sand into gray. Nothing moved in the still, hot air, until, at the very edge of the visible, a small cloud of dust arose, moving slowly toward the sun’s point of ascent. As the wavering vision passed over the desert sand, the shadow of its passage trailed along behind, like a faithful dog. The heat, already stifling, mounted….

Not too bad for off the cuff, eh? And only one cup of coffee down; most encouraging. Yesterday taught me another new lesson on aging; hangovers are exhausting for us old farts. I did my best to act normally, even going so far as to walk the entire way home from my errand, a bit over a mile in one shot. Then, at about 6:30 PM, I faded, so rapidly, it was all I could do to prep coffee for the morning, and fall into bed, where I slept like a corpse for eight full hours (which may be a new record for the past ten years…). I feel a bit guilty, for blowing off all my regular blog visits, but, can’t argue with the energy 8 hours sleep will supply.

Since I’ve got all this energy, I’m gonna go use it up, then take a nap, just because I can. I’ve got a decent Pearl for you, with a four year-old poem, and a fresh old-school pearl to go with the most excellent musical choice of the day. Before my enthusiasm and energy gets me any more worked up, I’m going to go get this done, & posted, so I can use my energy more efficiently. I know, bozo talking, but, hey, I can dream, can’t I? Today’s music selection happened when I got a bit maudlin the day after my birthday celebration, during which I indulged in copious (for me) amounts of Jameson’s, attempting to verify the old saying about the Irish, to wit: an Irish man isn’t too drunk if he can still hold on to a single blade of grass and not fly off the planet. I discovered it is most likely true, though the details of the experimental process are a little fuzzy, and the data is a bit disorganized, so I have no proof, either true, or false. Given the results, I’d say this is a case of the belief being sufficiently accurate to convey the essence of the concept.

I’ve listened to the music of this group for over 50 years; my parents had several of their albums, which only stimulated my interest in that quarter of my heritage. Plus, these guys can flat-out play, sing, and, most importantly, engage with their audience, as you’ll plainly see, and hear…. Enjoy…

A Seasonal Approach

Absolute stillness grips a frozen field,
anticipating dawn with such patient yield
morning burgeoning in dark winter’s hold
brings promise of tales yet to be told.

Lengthening days of pale sun unto night
slowly tell of time’s subversive flight
bringing such original songs of natural fire
with melodies complex in casual attire.

The months are certain they will always win
it is just the way it has always been.
None may argue, nor yet slow life down
Nor dim the eternal beauty of nature’s gown.

Winter evolves from fall into spring,
sending flocks and hearts ever awing.
Summer follows suit, t’other way ’round
Spring into fall, often without a sound.

Life is meant to be lived, beginning to end
choices abound, and change can be a friend.
Yielding with grace to reality’s compelling ploy
fills our plain existence with clean, honest joy.

i-know

I know it’s in here….

Hajime…. That was close. I hate to lie, & came damn close to having done so to my Gentle Readers, had I not come up with this idea for a Pearl at the last moment. It would be tres chic for me to relate the details; it would also be foolish to do so, lest it be taken seriously. There’s nothing serious here at all today, even if it may appear that way. Oh, it’s all reasonably coherent; there just isn’t much of it. This is a direct result of getting officially old today, as hinted at yesterday….

Yep, I’m 66 now, a mere one tenth of the Age of the Beast, but, not an insignificant point of progress. A lot of what is taking place in my life is a hard row to hoe, but, having been raised right, hard work doesn’t scare me. Nor is it particularly scary to contemplate nearing the end of my time here. In fact, it’s rather exciting to think about, in a certain respect; the final adventure, with complete and utter uncertainty as to what will happen, can be considered the ultimate puzzle, which is what our brains do best, even if we don’t know it. And, now, I’m starting to babble….

That will happen when one really hasn’t much to say, other than, what you see is what you get. I’ve got an old-school pearl for you, with five odd inclusions that add up to a good idea to remember/discover. You’ll see. And I shall be as intended, out somewhere in the BBR, stirring up trouble for the machine, if I can manage it. If not, well, a nap sounds good, too. I’ll see if I have time to put together something for tomorrow, maybe. Then, again, maybe not. Time will tell, I suppose; it always does. For now, let’s get this done, and be on our way…. Don’t worry, there isn’t much of it, so, you won’t have to think very long….

Shall we pearl?….

“In the dark colony of night, when I consider man’s magnificent capacity

lonely-duty

Lonely duty off the coast of Ireland….

Hajime…. It probably comes as no surprise to anyone who has been here more than once to learn the methods used to create these Pearls of Virtual Wisdom are, at the base, as random as can be tolerated. That is to say, the result is random; my approach is anything but, though to look at it from the outside, that probably doesn’t hold true. Nonetheless, when I am searching for pearls, or thinking about using a pearl as the basis for ranting, or, especially, when writing poetry, the process is allowed to proceed in a semi-conscious manner, with randomness as the only parameter. In short, it’s all done with a direct connection to the unconscious, as I’ve known forever most of my REAL thinking goes on there. What happens out here in the harsh light of reality is merely the reflection of that….

Why, you may ask, is he rambling on about such meaningless drivel? Gosh, do ya think it might be going along the lines of that parameter? I hope so, because it damn well is, and I’d hate to start your day out by forcing a hard reboot; it could get expensive in coffee. Not to worry, though, there won’t be any charges added on your bill for the service, should it have to be applied. I suppose it would be polite, at this point, to actually tell you why all this is so ‘in your face’ at such an hour. However, I gave up being polite for Halloween, and guess what today is? Yep, that’s right. It’s the day before the least important, yet significant day of the year. I speak, of course, of the Day of the Dead….

Yes, November 1st, El Dia de los Muertos in many places around the world, always my favorite holiday (well, sort of a holiday; hard to attach much frivolity and/or lightheartedness to the day, but, it’s fun, in a macabre sense….), not only for its honesty, but, because it’s also my birthday. I will turn old, officially, tomorrow about 3:30 AM, when it will have been exactly 66 years since my parents welcomed me into the world. It’s a big milestone, in this country, as it marks the age where one is allowed to begin collecting the money that society forced us to pay into Social Security, in my case, for shortly more than 50 years. My only remark on that, for now, is to note the relevance of the Grateful Dead line, to wit: “What a long strange trip it’s been!….”

But, that’s tomorrow, and, right now, it’s still today. My sense of duty is telling me to get posted, while my randomness gene is laughing at such nonsense. I’ll use the distraction of the argument to go ahead & get this done, while the various parts of my mind are busy elsewhere. It ain’t the most extensive Pearl ever, but, it’s sufficient unto the day. It will have to be, because, well, it will. On that fatalistic note, I think it’s time to move on….

Unwrapped Morning

A jewel of deepest green, sparkles by firelight
Held fast by time, and space
Leaves only passive passion, pale and bright
Naught but grief, yet but a trace.

In morning’s bright parlor, burning for hate
Unspent moments fall, seeking pain
Spilling blood forlornly, cowed by fate
Left with nothing, life in vain.

Pallid purpose calls, to that fallow ground
In bold fashions, aflame
Conscience falls aside, value unbound
Death calls, forever lost, the game……

Hajime…. I am taking a day for myself, one that doesn’t include putting together a Pearl. Since I’m really okay, mostly, I won’t tell you about the demon attack, or, the cost of quelling the insurrection. I’ll merely say, it might take me a day or two to deal with the consequences, both internally, and externally. Don’t fret, Facebook will learn to miss me, too, and like it; otherwise, they’re in for a spot of lumps. Me, I got stuff to do….

Part of this decision arises from a need to touch the Earth; part comes simply from frustration, as Smart Bee seemingly decided to go on vacation altogether. Since I don’t feel like using alternative sources, which, though they provide a bit of variety, are a lot more time-consuming, I decided to take a day or two, to find some shit, so I can get it together. Of course, I am well aware that shit’s easy to find; it’s the getting it together that’s hard. But, I can do it, and shall, in spite of the odds, which are running 3 to 5 against.

Okay, that’s it. I’ll quit trying to write something exemplary with which to leave you; it’s pretty obvious by now, exemplary isn’t in the bag, or, for that matter, in the same county. While I’m gone, I’ll see if I can’t find my muse; she’s probably passed out drunk again, in some flop in El Ciudad Tijuana. Should I do so, the next Pearl should come out alright; if I can’t well, we’ll just have to see, won’t we? I will, anyway. On that note, let’s just get on with this, as anything else makes no sense at all…

Shall we pearl?….

No, we shall not pearl. Not any more than what you see now, anyway. That’s it. I’ll be back in a day or two; if I find time, I’ll post a re-blog, just to let y’all know I’m still alive. Otherwise, I’ll see you when I see you…. Y’all be well, & happy as you may….

Perfectly imperfect….

Hajime…. We humans do tend to become attached to our routines. This can make the process of evolution somewhat uncomfortable, unless we practice the art of dealing with change phlegmatically, rather than passionately. Our egos get in our way enough; it’s a good thing to work on our reactions ahead of when they become part of reality, for the meeting of imagination and reality can be fraught with danger and chaotic emotions. Best to learn control before it is needed so desperately, as is often the case when reality strikes….

Since the reasons for such an opening are extremely fresh, and, thus, still volatile, I won’t attempt to explain. Suffice it to say, for our purposes here, I managed to avoid a complete meltdown long enough to complete today’s Pearl, such as it is. It ain’t Ibsen, but, it’s legit. Since I’m pretty certain I can’t do any better by keeping at it any longer, I’ll forgo my usual blather and/or nonsense, in favor of another ruthlessly short intro. It seems to work out fairly well when I do get ruthless, so, we’ll go with it today, just for form. I like it, sometimes, because I get to do this….

We’re going back to the archives this morning, simply because I’m lazy, and a little late; a typically human reaction, to be sure. Nonetheless, it’s also reality, so, we’ll all have to deal with it. Here is a piece from a couple years ago, with a little discussion of, well, me….

From 4/19/2014:

:GIGO: /gi:’goh/ [acronym] 1. `Garbage In, Garbage Out’ — usually said in response to {luser}s who complain that a program didn’t “do the right thing” when given imperfect input or otherwise mistreated in some way. Also commonly used to describe failures in human decision making due to faulty, incomplete, or imprecise data. 2. `Garbage In, Gospel Out’: this more recent expansion is a sardonic comment on the tendency human beings have to put excessive trust in `computerized’ data. — from The on-line Hacker Jargon File V423

Many years ago, I adopted the user name gigoid, taking it from the above definition, and adding an “id” for, of course, identification purposes; with that suffix, I am assured of human status, i.e. hominid, humanoid, etc. I chose this acronym because it is the perfect reminder of the basic integrity that is built into all computers, i.e., they can only do what we tell them to do, and cannot lie. Thus, if our results are wrong, the error lies in our input, not in the computer; this automatically cuts in half the number of places to look for the problem. I like to think that my awareness of this principle characteristic is what has allowed me to use computers without suffering many of the common difficulties such as crashes, freezes, and blue screens of death. Only once have I ever encountered one of those on my own computer, and that was the result of a virus my defenses missed… my fault, of course, I hadn’t updated soon enough…

Oh, I’ve encountered that famous blue screen before, when I worked as a computer tech back in the late 90’s, setting up LAN’s and office systems for H&R Block…. a significant percentage of machines were dead soon after coming out of the factory box. But, on my own computers, I am very careful never to break any of the basic rules that govern those kinds of mishaps…. and I owe it all to a wise choice of user name…. Well, it’s fun to think about it that way anyway….

So, who is gigoid? Well, if you’ve hung about this blog site for long, I’ve certainly given y’all enough of my inner workings to look at, in my rants, and in my old school pearls, as well as in my poetry, which is quite revealing, to me….. but, then, if it wasn’t, I most likely couldn’t write it…. Any who, to give the short answer to that question, I’ll post below some pearls that give insight into what I believe to be true, and how I try to live…. Like any weak human, I don’t always succeed at being as moral or ethical as I can be, but, I do try, and I do feel pangs of regret when I don’t, so cut me some slack, eh? Just kidding…. What I am is all what I am, though I’m not Popeye…. and these pearls are what I see in the mirror…..

“They are able because they think they are able.” — Virgil

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” — Aristotle

“An epigram often flashes light into regions where reason shines but dimly.” — E. P. Whipple

It is my firm belief that it is a mistake to hold firm beliefs. — Smart Bee

Computers can never replace human stupidity. — Smart Bee

“Do not confuse “duty” with what other people expect of you; they are utterly different. Duty is a debt you owe to yourself to fulfill obligations you have assumed voluntarily. Paying that debt can entail anything from years of patient work to instant willingness to die. Difficult it may be, but the reward is self-respect.
But there is no reward at all for doing what other people expect of you, and to do so is not merely difficult, but impossible. It is easier to deal with a footpad than it is with the leech who wants “just a few minutes of your time, please — this won’t take long.” Time is your total capital, and the minutes of your life are painfully few. If you allow yourself to fall into the vice of agreeing to such requests, they quickly snowball to the point where these parasites will use up 100 percent of your time — and squawk for more!
So learn to say No – and to be rude about it when necessary. Otherwise you will not have time to carry out your duty, or to do your own work, and certainly no time for love and happiness. The termites will nibble away your life and leave none of it for you. (This rule does not mean that you must not do a favor for a friend, or even a stranger. But let the choice be yours. Don’t do it because it is “expected” of you.) ”

— Lazarus Long, from Time Enough for Love, by Robert Heinlein

“Do I look like someone who cares about what God thinks?” — Zippy the Pinhead

Well, that’s enough about me…. Hope this helps clear up any confusion, and if not, well, hey, life goes on…. all we can do is all we can do, and no more….

Unheralded Sagacity…

To many, who will not see beyond their nose
the world becomes a dangerous place,
a bullet in every gun, a thorn with every rose,
no magic comes to save us, reality leaves no trace.

Minds closed, wrapped tight in manufactured fears,
men become clay, easily molded into complacent form.
No chains needed, held in thrall for years,
lies become gospel, when dishonesty is the norm.

Shed the chains you wear in durance, in kind;
Oh, ye of little faith, and much doubt
Strength is found in an unfettered mind,
Cry “freedom” with a great shout.

No help from any gods can hinder so much
as our own lack of confidence;
finding the light within, knowing it as such
confirms us, becoming consequence.

Illumination…..

Hajime…. In the recent past, I’ve been spending a lot of time inside my head, searching even further inside myself, to find the answers to all the issues presented to me by my reactions to reality. The primary result, in re: writing this blog each day, has been to make it difficult to feel any connection to the creative process. It might have to do with how I deal with pain, since I’m having less; it’s been clear for quite a while my pain has been one of the more stimulating factors in creating the angst needed to supply fuel to the fires of my meager creativity. So, perhaps that is the whole problem; sort of an anti-problem, since it’s because my pain is reduced in total.

With that being said, I find myself, this morning, rather reluctant to even begin putting together a Pearl for today. I do have pieces partly done, but, the energy to make the effort to bring it together seems to be missing, gone poof while talking on Skype to a friend about today’s Brexit vote. The political/sociological depths we explored while talking seems to have eliminated any desire to write. This, of course, is a bit frustrating, since it took place BEFORE beginning, and removed most of the stimulating factors in conversation. Therefore, I’ve made a decision, to post only a truncated Pearl. Another WYSIWYG post, as it were.

So, at this juncture, I can’t even say what you’ll find below this intro. What I do know is, whatever you find is all there is for today. You won’t need to worry about it being over-long today, that’s for sure. In order to get even that much done in a timely fashion is impossible, since I’m already almost an hour past my personal deadline to post, I’ll have to cut it ruthlessly, and get it done in what we like to call jig-time. Don’t know what that means, but, we say it anyway.

That’s all for today, ffolkes. I’ll see y’all tomorrow…. Maybe. If not, I’ll leave a note, with another whiny apology. Actually, no, I won’t, but, hey, it sounds good, and it takes up a little more space. Let’s go see what we can find to help get this done….

Shall we Pearl?….

Dead Hands,Typing…

Puzzled anew by anomalous blocks of pain
caught, bemused, chained to routine, insane.
Stilled within breathless beauty
Engaging epiphany, insistent, called to duty.

Knees bent in lieu of a faithful rendition
suffuses, confuses, locked into stale perdition.
Clearing corrosion with hands encased in stone
Singular frozen follicles, masked by bone.

Partial focus brings unfiltered flavors to light
coloring each particle in simple delight.
Forlorn, novel conceptual artists singing in tune
nine notes in harmony, soft as the moon.

Honed blades of carbon steel flash in rhyme,
filling sensual receptors well past closing time.
Borrowed from neighbors in a week-old game
still bloody, without a proper name.

No flooded memories can justify such cost
no simple stationery, bilious, afraid, lost.
Ten times ten will never be enough
To fill so empty a stolen trough.

Bartering simplicity takes well into the night
solidly temporary pillars turned bright.
Unknown to all the pretty children who came
none were called, none had any remaining flame.

A rose for Carole….

Hajime…. What a night! There I was, sleeping peacefully as I ever do, when, at about 0130 AM, I was rudely awakened, by an extremely off-key young woman, seemingly five feet outside my window, warbling an unrecognizable tune at the top of her voice, in a bathroom (you can tell by the echo in the sound…). The screeching went on for quite a long while, repeating the same line over and over, just loud enough to keep me awake, getting more wound up with every repetition. I eventually had to bang on the wall, to let the neighbor know they’d awakened me, whereupon it finally stopped…. only to start again at 0230!

I finally got them to stop, but, by the time they did, it was 0300, so I got up to begin my day…. That lasted until 0400, when my eyes began to droop…. whereupon, I returned to bed, thoroughly confusing Leelu. Since I was thoroughly grumped, I didn’t care, and she’ll get over it, just as I will get over the angst I feel from not getting my chosen duty done at the time I am accustomed to finishing it. I’m going to be very late, and don’t care at all. Not bad, eh? I can only hope my unconscious mind isn’t sitting on a surprise for later; it will do that occasionally, dumping me in a deep hole, out of nowhere, just because it can….

The Pearl you’ll see was mostly done, anyway, as I actually found some ‘muse’ time yesterday afternoon. Lucky me, I guess. And, hopefully, lucky you. I suppose both of us will find out below, won’t we? Since I really don’t have much going yet, having disrupted my coffee intake severely, I’ll end this intro, here and now, so we can make a valid attempt to get back on track. Wish me luck; I’ll need it…. While I’m looking for it, I suggest we go finish the rest of this mess…. and, we’ll do it like this….

Aristotle_Bust_White_Background_Transparent

Aristotle

If there is anyone in history with whom I identify, it is Aristotle. By that, I mean, he is, of all those people of whom I’ve read about throughout my life, (a lot, trust me….), he is the one I think comes closest to having a philosophy of life with which I most closely agree. This isn’t to say his attitudes and/or beliefs are the same as my own; there is a large gap of time between us. If no two people in the same time can truly be the same, the same must be understood to apply to two people who lived at least 2500 years apart in time.

That said, the impression I get of Aristotle’s philosophy can best be expressed by relating my own, for, in my own mind, if in no other, there are too many points of congruence to deny the connection. I first codified this in 1985. The first time I sent it anywhere for anyone to see, via email, was in 1997, while living in Sonoma, California, a married father of two teens, living the life of any such human male in modern America, struggling to maintain my sanity while pursuing a dream that ceased to exist many years ago.

I carved out a study in the back of the garage, thought about my life, and all I’d read. The conclusion I came to was, “If Aristotle, Plato, Sartre, and all the rest can do it, why can’t I?” So, I did. The following, with one axiom added over the intervening years, is exactly what I wrote:

Peruaosophy

The wisdom of pearls…
(The world is my oyster; which way to the pearls?)

Axioms

1) I think am; that’s close enough.

2) The nature of the Universe is Change.
Unpredictable, innovative transformation of Reality is the Norm.
If you have a p problem with this, you’re in for a rough ride in Life.

3) Thou art God, you know. Let’s do lunch
.
4) Excellence is its own reward.

5) Girls think differently. So do boys. Don’t fight it.

6) Axiom #2 X axiom #5 = And god so loved the world, she said, “Quit whining!”

7) Do your Duty. Respect Life. Honor the Truth. Share your Love.

8) Go back. Everything you need to know is in the first seven axioms.

~~ gigoid ~~

At this point, it may occur to some Gentle Readers, for example, “What a crock!” In response, I can only say, not only is that a trifle harsh, but, incredibly short-sighted. However, rather than creating self-fulfilling imaginary conflicts in my head, I’ll take a few moments to explain just how it could be a mistake to assume there is no merit in this exercise of my imagination, as expressed by my experience in reality. Oh, and, I will add, for those who might have forgotten how things work here at ECR, never forget the power of the Metaphorse….

Did you catch it? Do you see how that works? Now, we have a multitude of directions in which to take this treatise. I can dissect the axioms, individually. I can discuss the entire group, in relation to what is not said, and how that relates to my opinions of current world events. Or, I could try to explain the term, “Metaphorse”, for anyone who needs it, and/or, the amusement of those who do not. Since I’ve already taken up a lot of your time, to get us this far, let’s do it the long way, and try them all, at once, okay? Okay!

Never mind; I wouldn’t do that. Well, not to y’all; I might do it to an enemy, or, to anyone who wants to be. But, for today, I’ll just say I’ll try to remember to get back to all this, because, hey, fresh rants, right? For now, I’ll just answer any immediate thoughts anyone may have regarding the above assertions in the comments, and get on with the rest of the mess for today, thus ensuring we all live through this, to see which of the fascinating above-mentioned exploration may be first to launch our mutual melding of minds. Let’s go read a poem….

After all the dross is sent away
a celebration can begin,
time will face up to space, to stay
willing, to shine from within.

Anger and confusion come in to share
brushing reason aside,
eager to welcome all that is fair,
alert to danger, eyes wide.

Re-gift the wicked with their own pain
stand with the just;
fail to partake of the ill-gotten gain,
living in honor, the only must.

Standing fast in the face of wrong
is its own prize and reward.
Holding on to truth makes us strong,
well worth working toward.

Little is left to chance by fate
our lessons are never free of cost.
Seldom does reality make us wait
only when alone, are we lost.

“If you begin the day with love in your heart, peace in your nerves, and truth in your mind, you not only benefit by their presence but also bring them to others, to your family and friends, and to all those whose destiny draws across your path that day.” — Ancient Human Wisdom

Two things. First; when I attribute a quote in this manner, it is because I cannot find ANY source that can lay claim to it. I’ve found, in my experience, this means it has been around so long, it is considered basic knowledge for humans, and always has been so… Second: You know what?
