Hajime…. My purpose here today is single-fold; to get done with this, before I reach complete melt-down mode. I don’t know exactly why I’m in such a state, but, to deal with it most efficiently, it’s best to get this done, & move directly into hunker-down mode, my most powerful state of protective insulation from Reality. I don’t even care much today, so, I’m letting the process dictate the results. I’ve trusted it for this long, so, may as well keep on doing so….

I have nothing stirring in my conscious mind to put into this section; even my unconscious is in limbo. To avoid any accusations of either pandering, or, whining, I’ll just quit trying to be coherent, & get on with what we have for your perusal today. Nothing else to do, but, smile, & get on with it. Smiling may be pushing it, so, we’ll just move on to the latter…. It’s simple, really; this is all there is to it….

Shall we Pearl?

Semblance of Time

The dreams and visions of modern times are pallid and pale
filled with fear and loathing instead of joy and wonder.
Reality is aging poorly, submitting less data to loudly regale
Sad faded images lacking substance, or proof of thunder.

Sisters and brothers of nightly performance speak in spite
building up scars to protect, or keep a semblance of sanity.
Knowing illusion is near and dear, steeped in muscular delight
while compassion and intelligence get smothered by humanity.

Loneliness soon became the friend of many sizes of fools
stealing through mazes of social tests as if truly wise, or old
while companies of sterile opportunity are hiding their tools
from anyone who might be feeling even a little bit bold.

Painful momentary flashes seem to outline society’s fate
until soft, heavy monuments to elder gods fall from grace.
We’re all getting tired of being told we’re far too late
and never ever nearing tolerance, nor regaining any face.

A hard message awaits us all when we dare to even stay
of life’s uncaring disposition and curmudgeonly faux heart
Only with the strength of a hero may such tales make way
Only a poet may turn such pain into a valid work of art.

Safely insane amid the noise and tedium…..

I celebrated the New Year last night, in order to avoid joining all the amateurs who will be out and about tonight. The plan worked, except I forgot the price, which I am now paying. It’s a stiff price, too; I’m going back to bed, & may not get up until next year. For now, here’s a pretty good Pearl from 2013 for your reading experience for today…

Ffolkes,
Unbeknownst to the rest of us, the warranty on this state of reality has expired, and I don’t think there will be any renewal, not for us, and not for the dreams we once held. Sad, but true….. A lesser man might become depressed, or fall into the state of mind where a lack of caring, about anything, becomes attractive, rather than the low-level sense of doom that is the lot of those who have any wit to spare. Instead, I think…. I’ll have a beer…..

Or maybe not…. it’s a bit early for a Budweiser, I suppose. I’m not sure exactly what the above paragraph is all about, other than as a possible lead-in to a rant, and it’s WAY too soon in this process to start that….. I am considering using this as the opening line for this blog every day, much like the sig file I use at the end (“Sometimes I sits and….”)…. It certainly fits my usual state of mind when I sit down to write in the mornings. In fact, it occurs so often, it could be considered a ritualistic behavior, designed to mitigate the overall impact of having to wake up and get moving. I have learned enough in my years to make sure that I own a programmable coffee maker, that has my coffee ready for me when I get up. But, I still have to get up, stir in the condiments I use, then go stare at the computer while it boots up…. by the time I’ve sipped a few ounces down, and I’m beginning to be able…

At her ease….

Hajime…. Though I am pretty tired out, today is a good day. Yesterday, thanks to my new & improved general condition, and stamina, I spent 5.5 hours visiting with my son, grandson, and daughter. We had a great time, as we walked around the Plaza, chasing Pokemon Go figures, laughing, talking, and generally enjoying the day. It was the first time in a long time I have been able to tolerate spending the entire visit with them, which we all enjoyed. I got to read to my grandson from the book I gave him for his late birthday present (The Little Prince…), played baseball, threw the football, & do all the stuff I usually miss. ‘Twas a day filled with love, laughter, and hope; all in all, grand craic, as my Irish ancestors would say….

This morning, the Pearl came together fairly smoothly, given the fatigue & general mental fuzziness that goes with it. Though I didn’t have time to work on, or finish the new rant, or poem, still, things went well. When SB is in the right mood, it usually does; today, that’s a good thing, as it meant I was spared the frustration that comes in those times when it refuses to give me anything useful without massive contortions of effortful manipulation. We have the usual suspects lined up for your reading pleasure today (well, we are hopeful it will bring pleasure….); a poem, some music, and an old-school pearl, with some fine thoughts to feed your elephant’s child…. Maybe it ain’t Ibsen, or, for that matter, Twain, but, it’s art, and it’s mine, so there….

Before I lose what control I have, why don’t we go down the page a bit, and see what I’ve pulled together? It’s probably for the best, before anything untoward can occur, or, more relevant, before Murphy notices we’re up and about. Hmm….. Let’s use this one; it’s clean, and efficient….

Retrospective, defined in folly….

Yesterday
I wrote a poem.

It bled out of my head,
like I’d been struck with
an axe,
right through the artery,
in the neck,
spraying blood around
everywhere,
like a pulsing garden hose….

It hurt, at first,
then came the feeling,

of quick relief,
of timeless beauty,

of pain avenged,
of lust aroused,

of outrage aflame,
of deep compassion,

of endless empathy,
of truest love….

Now it’s gone, cast away
like pearls before twine.

(Grin…)

You thought
I was going to call you
a pig,
didn’t you?

Hah!

Well, you’re not.
You’re a person.

I know, because
you’re reading this poem…
if that’s what it is.

I think it is,
so,
maybe it is.

Or, maybe,
it will be,
someday, when it
grows up,
and learns to rhyme.
Whew…
Just in time…..

That’s all.
Reality often sucks wind,
y’know?

S’okay, though….
It keeps us busy,
and out of some of the
mischief,
so much part
of our
nature.

We all can do
only what we
do.

Or, don’t.

Two sides, one coin.

Silver Path to the Golden Gate….

Hajime…. Ugh. It is now 0403 here in California. I’ve been up for a bit over an hour, having decided several weeks ago to cease the morning battle with my familiar, & just get up when she does, rather than starting the day already adrenalized. It seems to be working, as it allows me ample time to compose, and post the daily Pearl, and still furnish Leelu with enough attention to satisfy her need to play, or cuddle. I’ve related previously how much like being married it is to have a familiar; the evidence for that continues to mount….

The only problem with getting up so early is the time it takes from my ability to get things done out in the BBR, for, by the time the rest of the world is awake around here, I’ve been up close to six hours. At my age, that means I need a nap, right around 0900, if I’m to make it long enough to see sunset, much less the next sunrise. It also means I do get to see the latter every day, which is enjoyable, as well as uplifting, as any sunrise is to us humans. We do like beginnings, so full of promise…..

What happens after sunrise is anybody’s guess, and does not always match our hopes for it. Such, then, is life, for all of us. Since I’ve managed to wax philosophical so well, so early, I’ll take advantage of the relative comatose state that has, no doubt, engendered in your minds; it isn’t deliberate, but, since it’s handy, I’ll take advantage of it. I don’t think we’ll cause any lasting harm by doing so, unless, of course, someone begins to struggle. Then, the restraints we use as a matter of course, (and, insurance regulations) can cause some bruising, from the rough ride. But, most likely, y’all will just nod your heads, and wake up somewhere down the page. So be it.

Since I’ve set the stage so well, why don’t we jump right in….

Shall we Pearl?….

Intelligent Crimes

The value of wit is often said to cause harm,
for those who think, such is its greatest charm.
The new and the bold cannot be fulfilled
if innovation and change is left unwilled.

Society behaves at its base as a mob
conformity and submission its primary job.
Any sign of rebellion against the mob’s rule
is met with resentment, naming such rebel the fool.

Intellect and talent are looked at askance,
expressing artistry stands nary a chance.
To stand out from the rest of mankind
is fraught with danger, for body and mind.

Often I stand to watch in solemn dismay
as beauty and joy are left by the way,
ignored and reviled by the unwashed masses
who prefer darkness, and acting like asses.

With shouts of derision the normals make known
their fear of intelligence, greater than their own.
They hope to stop all semblance of progress;
for thoughts and ideas, they couldn’t care less.

The world struggles on in spite of all opposition,
managing to maintain its advanced position.
Pulling the foolish along in spite of reluctance,
helping each to learn the survival dance.

Hard though it may be to keep up with the future
genius manages its plans to develop and nurture.
In the final analysis, those who live by reason
enjoy life the most, season to season.

Blog posts are, in some ways, like a photograph. They show the version of reality experienced by the writer, at the moment of posting, with evidence within each line of the experience of each moment it took to write. Thus, to assume the picture, or the blog post, represents anything more than that instant of time, is to make a mistake in reasoning. Each person who writes a blog is more than what you see, no matter how well they have infused themselves into what they’ve written.

What does any of this have to do with a closing? Not much, other than to point out my day, from this early point onward, will be much different than what you may see here, and may well be a better story/poem/song/dance. Or, not. No matter how it turns out, this one is done, and that’s what matters just now. The City ~ Ferry View…

Hajime…. Having learned some years ago how difficult it can be to be creative on a consistent basis, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to me when I find myself completely without any connection to the well from which it springs on any particular morning. But, it does, every time, generating the same feelings of panic and dismay, at the thought of having to, once again, cudgel my brain into producing something worth putting down on screen/paper, a process which is by no means consistent, or, comfortable. Apparently, though, the process IS one that works, if only in my dreams of adequacy.

With that being said, I will add, I’m not complaining. I am up early enough to have time to find the proper cudgeling tool, and, in retrospect, did so with some dispatch, if not elegance. You see, it’s done. Well, it’s as done as it’s going to get, anyway. I managed to persuade SB to cough up enough pearls to compose an old-school pearl, found an appropriate poem to accompany the fine poetry pearl I found, and picked out some rather good music, so, the elements are all in place. The only thing lacking is any sort of confidence in what I’ve done. But, confidence isn’t important; chutzpah is, and we’ve got plenty of that on hand.

Since my creative capabilities are somewhat limited today, obviously, I’ll forgo further blather, in favor of moving this along. Or, as we are fond of saying, let’s get this slow on the toad. No fooling around, either; we’re done, and, gone….

Rejection

“Jesus loves me, this I know,

I’d be crying a river, I thought
if ever such crap I bought.

Sorry if it hurts your sense of style,
but, hypocrisy always gives me bile.
Being lied to accidentally is okay,
but, deliberate lies make me angry, and fey.

Oh, God, hear what I pray!
Keep me from your followers today.
Having to listen to so much that is wrong
makes me puke, before it makes me strong.

I don’t know why it isn’t clear to other folks,
which is alright, you know, different strokes.
But, why should that mean that they must
force me to believe, or fail in trust?

Spare me the lies, and the make-believe,
fairy tales are easier to hear, and to weave.
They give us a lesson which we can feel
but don’t pretend at all to be real.

Reality can scare us, that’s a given fact,
still, met with care it will leave us mostly intact.
Met without fear, standing tall and alone
Life will allow us to make it our own.

Folly beckons, and so many follow
mass delusions seem to me most hollow.
I’ll have to stick to my own chosen way
while so many go so sadly astray.

It’s lonely at times, it may seem sad,
but really isn’t, and I’m quite glad,
that knowledge is always stronger than fear,
year after year, tear after tear…..

Hajime…. Good morrow, Gentle Reader. Our title today, if one didn’t know it was not, seems to be rather compellingly real, in intent, if naught else. Rest assured, it has nothing at all to do with what you’ll find below. Not that it ever does, but, it’s so close to what passes for real in this society, I felt the necessity to make it clear; it’s not. Real, that is. But, then, around here, Reality often assumes the general appearance of a slippery slope, so, I wouldn’t let it throw you….

Now that’s out of the way, I can tell you today’s Pearl is sort of a throw-together, if not a throw-away. As I sat to begin, I was faced with nothing more than a picture and two pearls; this means the rest got put together on the fly, as fast as possible, with little chance to apply any methodology for quality control, or even originality. Go figure, eh? Nonetheless, it managed to pull itself together, in spite of the handicaps, and my own relative mental acuity, which, sad to say, isn’t at peak. Since it pretty much did that all by itself, I’ll cease and desist trying to explain, and just let if fly, as it is…. It will probably work out best that way. Besides, I’m all out of fresh ideas for how to make this any more relevant, or exciting, so, let’s just do this. Hold on….

alert to danger, eyes wide.

Re-gift the wicked with their own pain
stand with the just;
fail to partake of the ill-gotten gain,
living in honor, the only must.

Standing fast in the face of wrong
is its own prize and reward.
Holding on to truth makes us strong,
well worth working toward.

Little is left to chance by fate
our lessons are never free of cost.
Seldom does reality make us wait
only when alone, are we lost.

I am told, by those who would know, I am done. As I look back over today’s mess, I can’t say I am either thrilled, or disappointed. This, of course, means it passes the standard test, so, I’ll let it be, & try not to worry about it. I guess, if one stops to think about it, I’ve done worse, and, probably will do so again. For now, this will do. I’ll try again tomorrow, should Reality cooperate; if not, well, I’ll be here, anyway. See y’all then, ffolkes, and try not to get depressed over it; it will be fine. Trust me….

Y’all take care out there,
and May the Metaphorse be with you;
Blessed Be, dearest Carole, Mark,Theresa, & Richy
and everyone else, too…

When I works, I works hard.
When I sits, I sits loose.
When I thinks, I falls asleep.

Which is Why….

Sometimes I sits and thinks,
and sometimes,
I just sits.

À bientôt, mon cherí….

It’s just like a dead parrot….

Ffolkes,

Good morrow. Today should be the last re-blog for a while; I’m almost done with the tasks set for me by my inadvertently intimate recent relations with the Big Blue Room, and will be glad to have some time at home, to myself. For today, here’s a pretty decent archived Pearl from a couple years ago… You even get treated to poetry that isn’t mine, so, bonus!…. I’ll be back tomorrow with a relatively complete, fresh Pearl for your perusal. Until then, y’all take care, and be happy as you may….

Or, if we are lucky, we can be what we imagine in our thoughts, no matter how fantastic they are….. Just sayin’…. Ultimately, though, it’s both egotistical and impertinent to believe that I could add anything particularly useful to something the Buddha said as part of sharing his wisdom…. Oh well, it’s true, so, it can’t hurt, and I’m sure the Buddha wouldn’t mind, as long as I am not being untruthful, or mean-spirited…. Mostly, I’m just being fanciful, to get the old grey cells moving along in a reasonably straight line, even if the line doesn’t get us much of anywhere important…

‘Important’ is just another personal judgment anyway, right? Right…. the universe treats us all alike, with complete, massive indifference to our wishes or our sensibilities…. It’s just the way it…

Gasp! They did this while inflated!….

Ffolkes,

Today’s Pearl didn’t materialize, despite some rather intricate contortions attempted in pursuit. Oh, well, as they say downtown. Here’s a re-blog from a bit over a year ago, with a pretty decent Pearl that not many Gentle Readers managed to get to. There’s some ranting, a good poem, and a bunch of cool pearls, so, it will do for the nonce. I’ll try to get one done fresh for tomorrow; if not, well, the day after. I’m having too much fun to care very much, so, I’ll leave you with the hope you’re having a good time as well, in spite of the general state of affairs out there…. Be cool, ffolkes, it’s strange…. I’ll see y’all tomorrow.

“The opposite of Galileo’s defense is also true;
surely it is harmful to souls to make it mandatory to believe what is unprovable.
History is a long litany of absolute proof of such harm.”

~~ gigoid, the dubious ~~

Good morning…. Well, I have the proof now. After all this time, what we’ve always known to be true has now been thoroughly, scientifically tested, and found to be true, to wit: Shit happens, and there’s nothing to be done about it.

Good to know, don’t you think? I do; it’ll save us all a lot of time worrying. Myself, I plan to use a good part of today, just contemplating the simple fact of my own innocence…. I mean…
