Mildred, leave the toilet seat where it is….

Ffolkes,

The dream we call Reality has captured me for the day; events have reached a juncture at which my intervention is required. Sadly, for our purpose, this precludes a fresh Pearl for today, though one is near completion. The good news is, while searching for today’s re-blog, I found a poem I’d completely forgotten I had written. I also have one percolating, almost to the point of leakage. Today, I’ll be dealing with all of that, out in the BBR, where the importance of Pearls fades before the face of the real world….

I will, however, be back; you may consider that a warning, or a promise, Either way, I am outta here for now. Y’all be well, be happy, be odd, (or, even, your choice), and, most of all, be alert…. The world can use a few more ‘lerts….

Reality, having assumed a configuration untenable to my sanity, has retreated from my perception, leaving me stranded, forlornly seeking a fantasy world in which to spend my time. Of course, there are many from which to choose, making the process of making a choice that much more intimidating. The feeling of doom, with its concomitant companion, depression, lies in wait behind a number of them, always ready to kick me to the curb with its melancholy insistence on dwelling upon that which cannot be changed…. Others are more friendly, yet, contain their own demons, certain to devour even more of my soul than even Reality can consume…. All of them, from the…

Oh, look, honey, the aurochs are nictating!….

Ffolkes,

I got distracted yesterday, dealing with events in the BBR, so, no fresh Pearl today. To sublimate, here is a rather fine Pearl from early in 2015, with some good philosophizing, good poetry (not mine; I went for the best on this day…), some grand pearls, and a video tribute…. It got some good traffic, but, is good enough to deserve another shot…. I hope you enjoy it, & I’ll be back fresh in the very near future….

Today’s intro section will be just that, and nothing more. I’m tired of trying to figure it out, so I’m taking a hiatus from doing so…. Our only purpose here today is to get this done, so we can get on with it. Too much going on to even explain, so, in the interests of maintaining honesty, we’ll go immediately into emergency exit #4, which, as y’all know, works like this….

Watching the Founding Fathers spin like a top….

Ffolkes,

While I am feeling more stable, in general, today, I feel lazy. Go figure, eh? Also, achieving what ‘together’-ness I have to this point took some rather extended, and extensive, effort. Hence, the aforementioned laziness has struck, & I just don’t feel like rushing to post today. I did, however, manage to find a pretty damn good replacement, with some rather good ranting, and a large number of excellent pearls to go with. In fact, it may be one of the best all-around Pearls I’ve done, as it includes one of my best poems, as well. In any case, it will do for my purpose today, & I hope you enjoy it.

For the first time in my entire life, a significant period of time, it is raining in California, in June. I honestly cannot remember that EVER happening before, but, hey, global warming & climate change are a myth, right? Well, the president thinks so (yes, I did not capitalize it; such respect must be earned…). Any who, I’m gonna go walk in it, then try to catch up to some of the stuff I’ve been postponing due to angst…. See y’all tomorrow, if all goes according to plan….

Ffolkes,

Having long been cognizant of the danger involved in living a life of free will, I accept that danger, without qualm or resentment, as the just cost it represents for the boon of living free. As our favorite Founding Father, Tommy J, was fond of saying, “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance; it’s cost is counted only in the blood of its defenders.” Well, I think he said it; it might have been one of the others…. but, it SOUNDS like mi amigo Tomas, so I’m going with that. The danger, as it turns out, is not from the world at large, so much as from the Australopithecan inhabitants of that world, specifically a certain small part of the impossibly fecund  group of naked, hairless apes who infest the surface of the planet with me….

Now, this may sound as if I have a rather poor opinion of…

Darkness has an odd coefficient….

Ffolkes,

In 2006, or late 2005, I asked my doctor for a stronger pain control medication, so I could continue to work to retirement without the pain preventing such activity. He placed me on Norco, an opioid, & for the next nine plus years, I took it, to the point of addiction. I began trying other options, including medical marijuana, whereupon, the medical community, in its corruption, decided I no longer deserved to take the opioids, & ripped me off them, sending me to physical hell for about 16 months. I am now completely free of the addiction, no thanks to medical science, & rely completely on my own medical knowledge of my body, and on medical marijuana, which not only controls the pain better than the opioids ever did (without any dangerous side effects), but, is steadily assisting my body to heal many of the physical conditions that plagued this old carcase….

However, only writing, it seems, can keep me close to relative sanity; when I don’t, it is more of a relative insanity. Events in the BBR yesterday prevented working on a Pearl, so, I’m sublimating by re-blogging this post from that period of time when I was inhabiting Hell…. It’s a pretty good Pearl, which some of y’all probably remember; but, it also fits perfectly with my current mental status, with a decent rant, a decent poem, and a damn fine old-school pearl. Good music, too, if you enjoy brilliant musicianship….

So, enjoy, & I’ll try to get back, fresh, by tomorrow. Who knows? I might just do it on time, whatever that means these days….

See ya….

Those readers who have been here consistently will know right away something is up. Those who have not will merely feel a slight bit of uneasiness, without knowing why. Those who are here for their first taste of Consensual Reality, gigoid-style, are in for an epiphany, of sorts; the direction it takes is completely ruled by their own inner needs. The rest of us, well, we’re going out for breakfast….

Of course, breakfast will consist solely of a bit of smarmy dialogue, but, they don’t know that. I’ve decided, as is by now obvious, to sever all connections we had to normal reality, and spend the day out on…

It’s Memorial Day, so, here is a memory from 2015, during my descent to Hell. Whatever I did to distract myself that day seems to have worked, much better than whatever I’m doing today…. which is why you’re seeing a re-blog in the first place. I’ll be back; you may consider that a warning, or a herald of better things…. See ya; too much, too much, it’s all too much…

In keeping with my resolution to lose weight (no, not a New Year’s resolution; I started three months ago…), and to take a more proactive attitude toward my overall health, I’m making good progress, 25 lbs; gone, so far, in 3 months…). In terms of the pain, not so much has been achieved, as yet, though I have high hopes, so to speak. In general, I also intend to be a bit less of a curmudgeon, at least in the way I look at certain subjects…. I have no intention of giving up my insistence on not suffering fools gladly; I’ll just be a little nicer to shopkeepers, and other folks who cannot properly defend themselves from my ire when they act stupid right in front of me…. Mooning over pugilistic dreams….

Ffolkes,

The demons of pain are paying me a visit, so, a fresh Pearl is contraindicated today. When I opened my mailbox this morning, I found a pearl from a friend, to wit: “You’re basically killing each other over who has the better imaginary friend.” — Richard Jeni, on war over religion.

She knows me well, patently, as this is one I’ve long known of, without knowing who first said it…. Since there’s nothing in me worth writing, I’ve included a Pearl from 2013, near the beginning of my descent into the Hell of opioid withdrawal. It speaks at several points of the ideas already presented, and should serve well as sublimation for today’s urge to pearl… I hope you enjoy it, & I’ll be back tomorrow, with some new thoughts on Life at Large….

Be well, be safe, be happy, & be yourself…. Oh, & try to have some fun….

Ffolkes,
Salacious, grinning demons haunt the edges of my dreams, claws dripping in the blood of innocence. Hideous screams echo through the dark halls in my mind, as the torturous maze leads me ever deeper into the nightmare of my own mind. No soothing touch is felt on skin numb to all feeling, no mellifluous voice penetrates the foul cacophony ringing in my unwelcoming ears. Time stops, and pain becomes eternal, the focus of all perception, until I awake, groaning in fear, to find myself alive, and whole, shaking, soaked in sweat, and vowing never to sleep again….

Gee, look…. it’s already 0700 in the morning, and I’m just now getting started…. If I didn’t know better, I’d believe I had finally overcome the time distortion suffered when I went to a different time zone for over two weeks…. I knew about jet-lag, but didn’t realize just how powerfully it…

Bagels never travel in first class….

Ffolkes,

Smart Bee is on vacation, apparently. The weather here is magnificent, and I have tasks to complete. These factors, combined, have precluded the creation of a fresh Pearl for today. Here is one from a bit under five years ago, when Pearls were longer, wordier, and less colorful than today’s incarnation. I hope you can enjoy it, anyway; I’ll be back as soon as I can talk myself into it…. making tomorrow a good bet…. See ya!….

Ffolkes,
My mind’s eye is clouded and grey this morning. No visions of beauty, or even of horror. No trite phrases, no witty repartee, and worst of all, no nonsense floating around in my head, clamoring for release. It’s all a void, empty space that I may have to try to rent out. I have fallen into writer’s limbo, that terrifying landscape where ideas run off the moment they arrive, and creativity is limited to sock colors. Where material is not merely hard to find, but actively resistant in spite of all efforts on my part to find something, anything to write about……

A hundred sinister eyes peered out from the darkness surrounding the traveler, closely following his progress on the road leading to the castle of the local lord. The traveler took no notice, his hooded face hidden as he stared downward at the back of his horse, seemingly…

Though the picture of the world described in this relatively ancient Pearl bears little resemblance to that we see today, there are a number of similarities, brought to light during the ranting that went on this particular day back in 2012…. I’m still dealing with events in the BBR, so this will have to do for today. It’s actually a pretty good one, so, enjoy!

I should know better…. Having applied for my SS Disability, I had thought that, since my last job let me go as “unfit for duty”, and since I AM unable to work due to back pain and my other physical challenges, the Federal Government, in the guise of the SS Administration, would be able to see that yes, I do need to get paid all the money I put into SS ahead of my 66th birthday.

However, in spite of my clear presentation of the facts, they denied my claim, having in their wisdom, without ever interviewing or seeing me in person, decided that I am well enough to work, able to stand for 6 or more hours a day (I can’t stand for more than 5 minutes before pain increases in my hips and back), lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, (which I can do…

For close to four years now, I’ve maintained a routine which gave me the time and space to produce these Pearls each morning. It’s been valuable to me, in at least one sense, if not many; if nothing else, my sanity, while never completely intact, remains sufficiently strong to resist giving in to all the parts of life which might make us unhappy by their complete indifference to our sensibilities. It may not sound like much, but, believe me, being able to find a spot of peace in this life is more of a gift than many folks, or, for that matter, ffolkes, may realize…. I do, and I appreciate it….

However, as today’s title indicates, if there is one thing we all need to stay on top…

A delicate motif, in gold filigree….

Ffolkes,

Some mornings, after a few attempts to either follow routine, or, approach normality, it becomes clear neither is going to happen. Rather than hurt myself in the vain effort to pull it together, I’m sublimating, by furnishing y’all with some fine ranting/discussion from a few years back. This one came out during my battle with opioids, so, it may seem a bit strident; pay no attention to that, just enjoy the noise. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to find some reason to continue to resist the urge to purge the planet, while studiously avoiding asking myself why I should. I’ll be back soon enough, so, try not to weep too hard. See y’all on the flip side, if I can pull it off….

Nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae fuit. : “There is no great genius without a tincture of madness.” — Seneca (8 BC) — De Tranquillitate Animi, 17

This is a truism, in my world, which extends itself to include “all the nicest folks I know”; in this way, it lives up to the same piece of wisdom, first told to me by my own father, who told me while I was still quite young, “Son, all the nicest folks I know are just a little bit tetched….” Though he was from Illinois by birth, he said it in a very Georgian, or Texan, accent, with a big smile, and a twinkle in his eyes….. These, of course, were the non-verbal signals to let me know that, though said in the spirit of fun(ny), he was quite serious, and believed it to be an absolute truth…..

I’ve found this to…
